Terrazzo is a material that is used in interior design and has become very popular in recent years. It consists of a mixture of stone fragments, such as marble, granite, quartz or glass, held together with a binder, usually cement or resin, and then polished to create a smooth, shiny surface. I’m in love with this material, which is why I decided to use it on our kitchen island. Look at the photos!
History
Terrazzo has a long history dating back to ancient Rome, where it was primarily used in floors and walls. However, in recent times, it has seen a resurgence in the interior design industry due to its aesthetic and functional features.
Versatility
One of the reasons why terrazzo has become so popular is its versatility in terms of design. It comes in a wide range of colors and patterns, allowing for significant customization and creativity in interior spaces. Designers can create unique color combinations and custom patterns to fit any design style or theme.
Terrazzo Sustainability
Another reason why I like terrazzo is its sustainable nature. By using recycled stone or glass fragments in its composition, the amount of materials that end up in landfills is reduced. In addition, it is a material that can last for decades, which contributes to long-term waste reduction.
In summary, terrazzo is a material used in design that has gained popularity due to its:
- aesthetic versatility,
- durability,
- ease of maintenance
- and its sustainable nature by using recycled materials.
These features make it an attractive choice for a wide range of applications. From floors and walls to kitchen countertops and decorative elements. Do you think this trend will stay with us? I think so.
